Julie Upmeyer, an artist, organizer and writer, recently initiated Active Ingredient LLC -unconventionally applied creativity, a platform for her artistic practice, initiating projects,events, exhibitions, artworks and collaborations throughout the world. Upmeyer has been
involved with the arts throughout her life, from a young age she was involved with Arts & Scraps,a non-profit arts organization that uses industrial scrap as creative material. A graduate with honours from Grand Valley State University, her work as an artist has involved large-scale installations, interactive works and performances, and public commissions.

Upmeyer has also worked as an events coordinator, arts instructor, project developer and has donefreelance work as a writer, photographer and designer. Her interests in alternative spaces for art generation and exhibition have lead her to travel with Artrain USA, an art museum inside of five railcars.

She has since lived and worked in New Delhi, India developing an international residency program, in Salzburg, Austria, where she developed plans for a nomadic fusion arts and music festival, and in Berlin,Germany, where she was a co-organizer of a global conference  for Res Artis, the international network of artists' residencies.  She now works as website content editor for the network. Having just completed her artist residency, performance and exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey, she is presently developing several new international projects in Istanbul and Athens.
